Something 4 Sunday, Series 2, Episode 7, Being Benaiah Brave

Scripture Reading
Andy B reads 2 Samuel 23:20-23, from the International Children Bible (ICB). This is about a particularly brave and mighty warrior called Benaiah.

Benaiah is Andy B’s all time favourite hero in the bible because he followed a lion down into a pit on snowy day!

Andy B talks about his favourite Bible hero (after Jesus of course) – Benaiah.

He is an amazing man, who went on to become King David’s bodyguard – find out why…and then Andy helps us consider what lions we need to face, with God.

Family Prayer Time
Jo Jo gets comfortable in a favourite armchair and encourages us to read Psalm 23 together as a family and then to give our fears to God.

Jo Jo shares a short and simple memory verse which is powerful to keep in mind through the ups and downs of everyday life.

Something 4 Sunday, Season 2, Episode 6, Light Always Wins

This week it’s all about light: Jesus is the Light of the World and the Light always wins!!

Scripture Reading
Andy B reads John 1 v 1 – 18, from the English Standard Version (ESV). The book of John is such an amazing book!

The ESV is Andy’s new favourite, because it translates the Bible into modern English, as closely to the original version as possible.

Andy B’s Preachy-Teach
Andy B looks at the Light of the World – Jesus.

John 1 leads us to Psalm 33 and Genesis 1: Let there be light!

Andy looks at how fear can overwhelm us, but fear has already been defeated by the Light of Jesus Christ; whatever fear we face, Jesus is the answer – because the light cannot be extinguished.

So no matter what issues we’re facing, we can trust that Jesus knows what it is like to be a real man, who walked on the earth – and loves us so much that He wants us to know the peace that comes from a relationship with Him.

Family Prayer Time
Jo Jo stays indoors this week, and actually builds a den with Peter, where the two of them lead us in some great ways of praying as a family.
It is wonderfully enlightening!

Memory Verse/Object Lesson
Jo Jo and Peter use the den he made for this Episode of Something 4 Sunday, once more, to help us memorise John 1 v 5.

Something 4 Sunday, Season 2, Episode 5, Exercise isn’t Everything

This week we’re looking at how “Our Body Is Temple”, and yet that “Exercise isn’t Everything”.

1 Timothy is a power packed book in the bible with advice for everyone, but especially if you’re a little younger – at heart or in number of years!

Scripture Reading
Andy B reads 1 Timothy 4, v 1 – 16, from the New Living Translation (NLT). It’s a great book found at the end of the New Testament.

We love the NLT because it uses a simpler written language to bring the spoken word of God to life!

Andy B’s Preachy-Teach
Andy B looks at what it means to be Spiritually and physically fit and what the difference should mean for each of us as continue to Run The Race God has given each of us.

His trusty Street Bible comes out again, to help us understand what an earth this scripture is telling us.

Basically, physical exercise is great, but we can’t all do that. This doesn’t make ay of us less valuable. Because, we should all ensure we exercise Spiritually – more than we exercise physically.

Andy B explores this a little more for us.

Family Prayer Time
Jo Jo goes outside to a local park this week to look at Prayer Walks.

What are they?

Why do we do them?

How do we do them?

She leads us through this and an example of what to say.

Memory Verse/Object Lesson
For our memory verse Jo Jo gets physical again, with a skipping rope to help us memorise 1 Timothy 4 v 8a.

This week we’re looking at “Running the Race”.

Andy B looks at what it means to Run your race, and how we each have a race we can run for Jesus.

Sometimes it can be tough, but he shares how we can help each other and why we should be encouraged.

For our Family Prayer Time, Jo Jo creates a Runner’s Prayer, to lead us through praying for all sorts of things.

Something 4 Sunday, Season 2, Episode 3, Spend Time With God, In The Now

This week we’re looking at “Spending time with God – God in the now”!

Andy B reads the whole of the third chapter of Habakkuk – Habakkuk 3 v 1–19, from the New Living Translation (NLT).

Andy B gives us the low down on Spending time with God and treats you to some happening words from the Street Bible. It’s the Word on the Street!

Family Prayer Time
For our Family Prayer Time, Jo Jo takes Habakkuk’s prayer – from Habakkuk chapter 3 – as a template for making her own to show us how we can use scripture to make our own, very personal, prayers.

This is the template she made up:

  1. Praise God
  2. Ask God for help
  3. God’s power
  4. God’s mercy
  5. God & creation
  6. How you feel
  7. Praise always
  8. God is…

And in prayer form, it became this:
Even though there is the Corona Virus in our world, and there is no vaccine or cure.
Even though we must wear masks on buses and trains and in the shops, and we must keep our distance from so many people.
Even though there are empty shelves and its difficult to get stuff from the shops.
I will still praise you Lord.
I find joy in you, my God, my Saviour.
You are Good, you protect me, you love me, and you help me.
You are all I need.
Amen

Memory Verse/Object Lesson
Get thinking about good stuff like Whatever is true, lovely, pure… as Jo uses thought bubbles to show us how to memorise another brilliant piece of Scripture – Philippians 4 v 8 ( NIV – 1984).

whatever is admirable
– if anything is excellent or praiseworthy –
think about such things.

Something 4 Sunday, Season 2, Episode 2

This week we’re looking at Worship!

Jo Jo reads Psalm 150 using the Good News Translation.

Andy B looks at the topic of worship. He looks at why Worship can change us and the room we’re in; why it matters that we keep worshipping and the difference our worship can make to others.

For our Family Prayer Time, Jo Jo looks at a way we can say thank you to God, and remind ourselves when we’re down how good God really is. Andy B used an old cardboard box, cutting off the top and using it as a lid. With a small slit for posting our prayers of thanks, and some red paper glued to the outside, he made the perfect, custom, post box.

In our Object Lesson for today, we show you how you can write your own Psalm and following the great example of King David – who wrote the Psalms – is to write our own Psalm. If you’re feeling a bit low, and wondering where God is, read some Psalms and you’ll get the idea. So very often, at the start of the Psalm King David laments about how God is distant and doesn’t care about him. By the end of the Psalm, this is totally reversed, and King David is worshipping and Praising God’s name once more. Writing your own Psalm is super easy to do – so have a go. It may help a lot when you’re feeling a bit low!

For this first Episode of our second series, Andy B and Jo Jo take a look at Jonah, and how God is the God of Second Chances.

Jo leads us through some family prayers and some ideas on how we can say sorry to God and others.

Andy B’s Preachy Teach looks at how many times God forgives us.

Also, Andy B and Jo Jo do a skit on Jonah and the plant that was there and then wasn’t!
