I was inspired about 3 days ago, after praying on my way to Shrewsbury; the benefit of a long commute, to set aside time with God whilst at the office. I am in the habit now of getting to work around 07:15 and 07:30 hours and at that time of the morning, funnily enough, there are few staff! There is a small meeting room across the hall from my office and I have gone in there, switching the sign to ‘occupied’, and had a Quiet time with God, reading my bible and making notes. The idea is to to put God first and give him my work life.
It’s such a simple thing and as Christians we know the importance of setting aside time with God, but I’ve found that the busyness of life and countless distractions can squeeze out this vital and life changing time with God.
Interestingly, the reading for my first quiet time in the office was from Ezra, the chapters around rebuilding the temple, which in a way is what I was doing. I’d made a commitment to God to get serious with Him and I showed Him this in my actions.
It’s early days, but already I feel stronger and sharper in my heart and spirit and this has profoundly affected my ability to perform at work. I noticed that fears were squashed and my confidence grew and the peace is awesome!
I guess it’s not rocket science; if we spend time in prayer we are changed; prayer is a powerful weapon.
‘For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms’ Ephesians 6:12
I am learning again the importance of putting God first in all areas of my life; demonstrating this in faith and action and realising my real need to stay close to my Father God.
