God is with us

It’s amazing how many resources are available to help us read our bible. I have read the Word 4 U Today, so looks like I’ll be getting closer to God through the Sermon on the Mount for the next few days: www.ucb.co.uk

I started a new Bible Plan which I found through my Youversion app on my phone: https://www.youversion.com/.

In John 1 today I am reminded that life is truly found in Christ; in nothing and no one else, that Jesus lived among us and that even though He made everything and was there in the beginning, people didn’t recognise or receive Him:

‘He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognise him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.’ John 1:10-11

In John 1, we hear John the Baptist’s testimony and John’s disciples follow Jesus. I found it quite amusing to hear the line from Nathanael who was told by Phillip that they had found the Messiah:

‘”Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?”‘ John 1:46

Actually, Jesus is the only good that has come from anywhere:

‘ For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard’ Romans 3:23

‘There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands;there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one’

Sobering thoughts to start the New Year!
