Andy B 2 Minute Video, Cardboard Cut Outs And Trying Again

When we’re recording Jo’s Art Videos we mostly do this from directly above, so what she is doing can be most easily seen and followed along with.

Andy loves problem solving, so used some leftover cardboard to make a special, unique, bespoke cradle to hold a mobile phone on a mic. stand………..which got him thinking about how God never gives up on us and how we need to keep trying sometimes, even though our first or second attempts really don’t go so well.

Andy B 2 Minute Video, Stripey Fabric and Usefulness

We got married nearly 25 years ago and, like most newly weds, we had no furniture to fill the house we lived in.

We were given a settee, which was well beyond its best, but still functioned.

We bought some fabric to cover it, and it’s still going strong……….which got Andy B thinking about how useful we are to God, no matter what season we are in of life.

Andy B 2 Minute Video, Rice Maker Handle

We recently started using a replacement microwave after our old faithful one, of more than a decade, showed its age quite a bit.

Anyway, we get through quite a bit of rice, and have used a microwave rice maker for the past two decades.

And, now, it doesn’t fit!

The microwave is too small for it – so we had to get creative!

Which got Andy B thinking about the things in our life that God is wanting us to let go of because, how ever good they may have been – or still be – He has a better plan.

Andy B 2 Minute Video, Car Wheels and Realignment

During our morning Church Service today there was lots of talk of God lighting up the path ahead of us; of how He illuminates the next part of the road that we need to drive along and how, as we move into that next stretch, God then lights up the next part and so on.

This reminded me about a time, recently, when we had to get the wheels on our car realigned. They simply were not all pointing in the same direction

Over time this ruins your tyres and the ride of your car. The steering wheel can feel quite heavy and the ride of the car, especially at higher speeds, can become quite uncomfortable!

Which got me thinking about where in my life God might want to do some realigning, by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Andy B 2 Minute Video, The God Connection – Dial Up or High Speed Broadband

Are we connected just enough to fool a diagnostic test? Or are we so connected we’re streaming in better than HD quality?

Remembering of a time sheep got in the way of a Radio Broadband connection, Andy B thinks about how connected we are to God.

We all have a connection with and to God: He made us!

But is our connection with our Maker more like Dial Up or High Speed Broadband?

Andy B 2 Minute Video, Christmas Trees and Good Wrestles

We often wrestle with God. And this go badly for us – just like it did for Jacob when he had his hip dislocated while having a very non-gentleman-like wrestle with an angel.

But some wrestles are good and God is behind us, encouraging us to press on.

Andy and family bought a Christmas Tree. And to get it Andy B had to wrestle to get the one he wanted – the one at the back.

Andy B 2 Minute Video, Plastic Bottles, Sheep and the Holy Spirit

Sheep produce wool, because they’re sheep.

Just like us – when we walk with God the fruit of the Holy Spirit is the natural outpouring of that relationship.

Limping, old, tired, broken………..whatever negative condition we’re in that we allow to define us, we can still produce wool – the fruit of the spirit

Sheep don’t work at producing wool – it just happens when they trust the Shepherd.

People don’t create the fruit of the Holy Spirit – it just happen when we trust the Shepherd.

Both production ‘processes’ happen when we trust the Shepherd to guide us to the better pastures.

You can hear the whole, awesome, sermon by my good friend Ben via the Therfield Chapel Website.

Andy B 2 Minute Video, Booster Seats and Blockages

So we had to replace a door seal/gasket from our washing machine which was starting to fail.

While we caught it before it had a chance to cause any damage to anything, it got me wondering about how connected we are to God – where our seals are perished or warped, and allowing stuff to get in between us and God that shouldn’t.

Andy B 2 Minute Video: Gadgets and some Inspiration

I love taking simple objects and situations and linking up something about God, His creation and more.

I’ve always needed one of my older boys to help record these little videos, or hold the phone with one hand, myself – at arms length – and use the front facing camera (or use a tripod and still have to use that front facing camera!).

This isn’t great when you have a sudden inspiration and you have to wait a few hours until somebody is free to help me record my inspiration.

And the thing is, that front facing camera, on my budget phone, is pretty rubbish, so I’ve been having to borrow my camera loving son to hold the camera – which he enjoys a lot – to keep me in shot.

While he is really happy to help, I wanted to find a way of being able to do this on my own. Because the rear camera is pretty good to record with, even mon my budget smartphone…but I needed to find a way of utilising it, while being able to see what my phone was recording, which I couldn’t do because I was the wrong side of my phone to see it.

If you can’t see what it sees, you end up standing in the wrong place, off to one side, with your head in the wrong place on the screen etc.

So here’s the problem:
How can I see what my phone sees, when it is facing the wrong way, while using that rear facing camera?

I scoured the internet for something to fill the gap I’d found I had. But I don’t even know what this thing might actually be called, but a pretty wide set of internet searches later, and I’d found nothing!

So…a bit of thought, some inspiration, and a couple of visits to my local town centre and I’d bought 2 different mirrors, and for less than £8 (UK): one is a rectangle shape and the other circular, but on a pivoting bracket.

I’d already worked out a round mirror was no help, hence the two mirrors.

Here’s what I ended up using:

  • a bolt, some washers and a nut
  • velcro ties (to secure the hold thing at the right angle)
  • sticky backed velcro squares (hook and loop)
  • a bracket from a circular mirror
  • a large rectangular travel mirror
  • the base from the travel mirror
  • a spare 1/4″ mounting screw

And using these parts, I invented and created a device that enables me to put my camera on a tripod. Simples!

Now I have an adjustable mirror, which pivots, tilts and I can adjust the angle it holds at perfectly, depending on what I want to see and where I’m standing.

Take a look below.

And, if anybody asks, I’ll happily create a video of me reassembling it so you can make your own – I didn’t do this to start with, because I wasn’t sure if anybody would have a need to make their own.

I’m properly chuffed with this. It works great, and doesn’t look weird or odd. In fact, because the rectangle mirror has a black plastic rear, it blends in with the rest of the trop of the stand.

The best bit is that the mirror assembly is held on with a bolt so I can easily remove the whole thing, and transfer it to any other tripod with a 1/4″ mounting bracket – if my phone holder fits, so will my new mirror assembly.

Andy B 2 Minute Video, Booster Seats and Blockages

In this 2 Minute Video, Andy B looks at a blow up booster seat that’s destined for the bin.

It’s kept Peter safe in the car when we’re driving, and us legal.

But if it doesn’t work, it is pointless, dangerous and needs replacing. Until it is no longer needed. Then, whether it works or not, it isn’t needed.

Andy B explores what areas of our lives may need booster seats, and where those things that once helped us, maybe don’t anymore.
